Please append your answers to the end of this brief. Include ALL pages of this brief in your submission. Do not submit separate documents. You should submit: - A short word processed report of approximately 2000 words. Structurally, you should submit a report with the following sections: - Cover page - This should feature your name and assignment title – perhaps a nice graphic, if you like (no page number on this sheet). Discuss the main features of project and operations management tools used to manage activities and various resources within the engineering industry Contents page - Lists each section in the document and the page number where that section begins (these pages are numbered i, ii, iii etc). Introduction - An introduction states the purpose and goals of your report. A few sentences will suffice here (this is always section 1, and numbered page 1). Sections - sections 2, 3--- etc. This is the main body of the report. Bibliography - A bibliography lists all the sources you used when researching your assignment but you have not referenced. References - List of all the sources that you have referred to in your text, using either the Harvard or Vancouver referencing system, should be listed fully here. Do not use Wikipedia as a source. Appendices - If required. Note: Use appropriate schematic for block diagrams and sketches. |

Scenario: Impressed with your recent report entry for PartTechs monthly newsletter, your line manager Tracey Cham- bers has asked you to present a slideshow at the quarterly Managers Conference. The Slideshow will be on the topic of Engineering Management and will look investigate the theories and tools in practice within engi- neering organisations surrounding projects and operations. LO3 Investigate the theories and tools of project and operations management when managing activities and optimising resource allocation. The conclusion of your presentation will look to apply some of these theories within the context of 2 case study organisation. Activity: Your slideshow will aim to cover the below questions. Tasks: a) Discuss the main features of project and operations management tools used to manage activities and various resources within the engineering industry. What are the most effective tools to employ when managing activities and optimising the allocation of re- sources? Present a table which compares the relative merits of such tools. b) Compare what can be used to improve management processes within the engineering industry? Which activities will improve management strategies? How do you think management strategies may be im- proved in certain circumstances or situations? c) Using 2 researched case studies (found in Moodle resource labelled ‘Case Study 1’ and ‘Case Study 2’) analyse the management processes and present your findings in the form of justified recommendations to the management strategies used. Consider how the organisational structure and leadership impacts on communication, culture, behaviour, and performance. |
