Introduction

Do we have a planet or a plastic planet? The plastic crisis has had an increased focus and has been widely documented, especially over the past 5 years. There are some shocking statistics that discuss the way in which we use and dispose of plastics. 90.5%: the estimated amount of plastic waste EVER made, that has never been recycled. 79% is in landfill or litter 11% has been incinerated, Geyer and Jamback, (2017). The crisis is now affecting the way in which live, our eco-systems and politics but it also influences the choices both business and consumers make.

The problem has prompted many countries and business alike to impose plastic initiatives to reduce the amount of single use plastics and plastic use in general.

Your Challenge

You are the new strategic developments team for a company of your choice. The board of directors have decided to implement a new plastic reduction strategy. Your task is to brief the board of directors about implementing a new plastic reduction strategy across the business. This will be done by completing the below. You must create a PowerPoint presentation on an organisation of your choice based on the above scenario-

- Brief overview of the company

- The company’s current strategic statements (mission statement, values, statement of objectives etc.)

- An environmental analysis of the current position of the company regarding their plastic use (PESTELE)

- Findings of environmental analysis & suggestions of plastic reduction strategies

Your presentation must be exciting but to the point and explain the main facts about your organisation. It should not be longer than 10 minutes to read. The presentation will not be a live/recorded presentation. Please copy your transcript for the presentation on a slide (s) after your references.

• You will be organised into assessment groups. Please refer to the Assessment 1 Groups document on Moodle.
• Please include references slide at the end and use in-text citations throughout the presentation.
• The presentation will not be a live/recorded presentation. Please copy your transcript for the presentation on a slide (s) after your references.
• Your final mark will be a group mark.
• Any group work issues should be communicated to the lecturer well before the deadline.
• If a student is not engaging with the group, the group must attempt to contact that person and provide evidence of this to the module leader.
• Failure to engage with the group will result in 0 marks for that individual student
• Please be professional throughout your group work experience

Please note- both assessments for this module will be based on the above scenario and company of your choice. The company must be the same for both assessments.  Advice in selecting that company will be given during tutorials.
