1. Critically discuss the pros and cons of European Monetary Union (1000 words) 40 marks
2. Critically discuss Mexico’s balance of payment problem

Your discussion should have the following

(i) Investigate the causes of the crisis and document the trend in key economic indicators, such as, balance of payments, the exchange rate and foreign reserve holdings.

(ii) Discuss what policy actions might have prevented or mitigated the balance of payment problem and subsequent collapse of peso.

(iii) Derive lessons from Mexican experience that may be useful for other developing countries. (1500 words) 60 marks
