3.0 Module Learning Activity(s)
You will be supported in the research and writing process by a Lecturer/Research Project Supervisor.
The Research Supervisor
The Supervisor`s role includes:
- Helping you refine and justify a research topic related to your studies, using relevant literature.
- Assisting with your Research Project Proposal by developing an initial literature review.
- Guiding you on ethical considerations for research approval.
- Encouraging you to express critical perspectives in your literature review and data findings.
- Advising you on preparing for project submission.
|
Supervision involves regular meetings between you and your supervisor, which can be arranged based on your study mode and location (e.g., via Teams or scheduled discussions). During supervision, you can ask questions, seek guidance, and discuss key issues. It is important to clarify how much feedback your supervisor can provide on your written work, as they may also be supervising other students. Research Project “Lecturer” The Lecturer’s role is to help you develop the skills to:
Your Independent Study Through research, writing, and presentations, you will explore your chosen subject deeply and create an original piece of work. The skills you develop may be relevant to your future job, and employers might find your work a reflection of your potential. This module will enhance your independent study skills, so you are expected to take responsibility for your own learning. |

About GLB7004-60C Research Project
GLB7004-60C Research Project is usually the big piece of work at the end of your course where you show you can plan and carry out a full research study on your own.
What this module is about
In this module you pick a topic that fits your course and your own interests. It should link to real practice – for example a problem in a company, a policy issue, or a clear gap in the existing literature. You then turn that idea into a clear research question that you can actually answer within the time and word limit.
The main aim is to prove you can think like a researcher:
-
find and read academic sources,
-
design a sensible method,
-
collect and analyse data, and
-
explain what your findings mean in a logical written report.
What you normally have to do
On GLB7004-60C you are expected to work through stages like these:
-
Research proposal – outline your topic, research questions, aims and basic method. This is usually where you also explain any ethical issues and how you will deal with them.
-
Literature review – read and summarise key books, journal articles and reports linked to your topic. You are expected to compare the ideas, show patterns and gaps, and lead towards your own research question.
-
Methodology – explain how you will do the research (for example, surveys, interviews, secondary data, case study, mixed methods). You justify why this approach fits your question and how you will collect and analyse the data.
-
Data collection and analysis – actually carry out the research. This could mean gathering primary data (e.g. interviews, questionnaires) or using existing datasets, company documents or online sources. Then you organise, code or run statistics on the data as appropriate.
-
Findings and discussion – present your main results in a clear way (tables, charts, themes or quotes) and link them back to the literature and your research questions.
-
Conclusion and recommendations – sum up what you found, why it matters, and what you would suggest for practice, policy or further research.
The final submission is usually a long written report (a dissertation-style project). It is expected to be structured, fully referenced and written in formal academic English.
Skills you develop
By the end of GLB7004-60C Research Project you should be able to:
-
choose and narrow down a realistic research topic
-
work independently and manage your time over several months
-
search for and evaluate academic sources
-
design and justify a research method
-
handle data in a careful, systematic way
-
write up a large piece of work that is clear, logical and well referenced.
