Learning Outcome 1
You should cover the effects of the following health issues. This should include death rates, impact on the economy in terms of unemployment and work hours lost, cost of treatment to the NHS, social issues related to the health condition and stigma and discrimination that may occur as a result of the condition.
- Obesity
- Type 2 Diabetes
- Dementia
- Cervical Screening
- Death from Drug Misuse
Learning Outcome 2
With regards to the above health issues, students will need to look at data in the forms of charts, tables and graphs with specific reference to age OR ethnicity. This data can be from sources such as national office for statistics, NHS, Charities associated with the health issues.
Learning Outcome 3
Students will then need to make specific reference to government policy relating to their chosen health issue. This could include National Guidelines (for example Government guidelines for drinking if looking at drug misuse), NICE Guidelines and publications by Public Health England. With regards to the policies, they must look at the strengths and weaknesses as well as specific reference to either age and/or ethnicity QU018799 Government Policy in Relation to Current Health Issues
Learning Outcome 4
Students will need to look at charities or pressure groups liked to their health issue, for example British Heart Foundation and Obesity, Jo`s Cervical Cancer Trust, Diabetes UK, Alzheimer’s Research, Addaction. Ideally, students should explore relevant local charities. They will then need to explain the groups views on Government Policy. This may be support or opposition, guidance on what needs to be implemented further.
Explain and discuss the effects of your chosen health issue. Include either a graph, table or chart with data relating to this issue, and discuss variations with respect to age or ethnicity
