Task:
A response to a set case study.
1,500 words (+/- 10%)
Daisy is 42 years old and
lives with her husband, Tony, in a large 4-bedroomed house. Daisy has
multiple sclerosis, is housebound and moves no further than her bed and
chair. This means that she spends most of her time in a converted downstairs
bedroom. Tony occupies one of the bedrooms upstairs. Daisy was diagnosed 10
years ago, but the disease has progressed quite quickly. The couple has no children
or no pets.
Daisy is a qualified physiotherapist and her husband is a primary
school teacher. Tony is finding it hard coming to terms with Daisy’s
disabling condition and as a result they spend very little time together. He
also worries about now having only one salary and meeting the financial
demands of managing a large house. Tony will often not allow the heating to
be put on, even though Daisy complains of being cold.
Daisy’s mood is often quite low when the carers visit. She also
sometimes gets angry with the carers as she feels they don’t always understand
her needs.
Guidance:

symptoms that may present.
●
The
treatment options available and the likely prognosis of the disease.
●
The
psychological impact on both the patient and her husband and carers.
●
The
support needs of the individual patient in this case, detailing how these
support needs could be met.
