Assignment Title: Introduction to the Construction Industry Management structure and techniques

Assignment Scenario Brief: You are working for a medium sized construction firm, much of the work has in the past, been private residential developments. They now wish to expand the business into none-domestic, large scale multi storey construction including Civil Engineering, Service Engineering and Geotechnical Engineering. To accomplish this expansion, the firm must restructure. This would inevitably change the management structure recognising that relationships will inevitably have to change, through contracts, tendering and other activities.

Evidence required: A report on the different options available to the company (this could be your own employer), in terms of professional development of the industry, company structure, and the benefits and/or challenges that the options present.

Assignment Tasks:

1. A timeline that both shows an explanation and analysis regarding the development of the construction industry and professionalism that has evolved from a critical perspective including, employees and contracted work. This should include a critical evaluation on how construction companies have developed their structure and business ethos.
2. Compare the main factors that differentiate construction companies in the market, contracts and tendering for example sub-contractor and design and build main contractual work that they tender for, to include a critical evaluation on how construction companies have developed their structure and business ethos.
3. A description of the different types of company structures/types, and the key features of the different types.

An explanation of the different types of relationship that may exist between companies working on medium and 5.  A discussion of the tender process and how companies relate to each other in this process.
